What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell or give away your personal data to ANY third party. We do however use third-party vendors to render our services. These may include payment processors, analytics services, maintenance services, and WordPress plugins. You may obtain a complete list by sending a written request to [email protected]

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

WP Top Hat does not directly market to customers outside of the United States. However, our customers may market to customers anywhere in the world. We do not share your personal data with our customers, even if you are using that customer’s site. How we protect your data

WP Top Hat is committed to keeping your data private and we store only what is required to provide our products and services to you. Our site uses an SSL and data encryption to protect your data.

What data breach procedures we have in place

WP Top Hat has a Full Transparency policy. In the event a data breach occurs, we will notify all affected users in writing within 4 hours of discovering the breach. Users will get full and regular updates as the breach is resolved. In addition, we will post a notice on our blog within 24 hours of the discovery of the breach, unless circumstances of the breach prevent us from doing so.

What third parties we receive data from

As part of our commitment to your privacy, we do not collect personal data from third parties without your express consent. By posting a comment or creating an account on this site, you grant us consent to collect personal data from third parties. These third parties may include, but are not limited to:

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

When you comment on our blog, or complete our email opt-in form, or create an account, we will add you to our mailing list, which we manage via MailChimp. Only the information you provide on the relevant form is collected and stored. You can view MailChimp’s privacy policy HERE.

If you pay us for one of our services, we may use automated billing to collect your regular payment. In such case, your payment details are not stored on WP Top Hat servers but are securely stored with our payment processor, Stripe. We do not have the ability to view your payment information such as credit card numbers, as this information is fully encrypted by Stripe. You may see the Stripe Privacy Policy here.

You may opt out of automated billing at any time. During your original registration for a paid service, you may opt out of automated payments in the signup process. If you wish to opt out of automated payments after registration, simply submit a ticket or email [email protected]

Additional Information Specific To Plugins We Use

Plugin: Smush

Smush sends images to the WPMU DEV servers to optimize them for web use. This includes the transfer of EXIF data. The EXIF data will either be stripped or returned as it is. It is not stored on the WPMU DEV servers.

We collect information about you during the checkout process on our store.

What we collect and store

While you visit our site, we’ll track:

  • Products you’ve viewed: we’ll use this to, for example, show you products you’ve recently viewed
  • Location, IP address and browser type: we’ll use this for purposes like estimating taxes and shipping
  • Shipping address: we’ll ask you to enter this so we can, for instance, estimate shipping before you place an order, and send you the order!

We’ll also use cookies to keep track of cart contents while you’re browsing our site.

When you purchase from us, we’ll ask you to provide information including your name, billing address, shipping address, email address, phone number, credit card/payment details and optional account information like username and password. We’ll use this information for purposes, such as, to:

We accept payments through Stripe. When processing payments, some of your data will be passed to Stripe, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and billing information.

Akismet

We collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use our Akismet anti-spam service. The information we collect depends on how the User sets up Akismet for the Site, but typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).
